Sony confirms death of PSP Go

Going, going, gone

Sony has officially announced the demise of its much-maligned PSP Go handheld gaming console.

According to a shonky Google translation of Japanese tech site Impress Watch, the cut-down PlayStation Portable, which was shockingly overpriced and could only play network-downloaded games, will be discontinued with immediate effect.

Rumours of the death of the device reported here yesterday were seemingly anything but exaggerated.

Sony will continue to support the handheld device and its games, but there will be no further production and sales will be restricted to existing inventory.

Sony says it's now concentrating on the Next Generation Portable (NGP), although the existing UMD-equipped PSP 3000 handheld will survive as long as it continues to sell in decent numbers.
