The entry level smartphone from HTC, the Wildfire S, has gone on preorder at Carphone Warehouse for £13.50 per month on a two year contract with 3 Mobile.
The handset is also available on PAYG for £349.95 which is quite expensive for such a handset, especially when you can get the HTC Desire S for the same price or the Samsung Galaxy S for much less than that.
The device is available in silver or purple and comes with a 3.2-inch HVGA touchscreen and runs on Gingerbread with HTC Sense as the user interface. There's no front facing camera but you do get a five-megapixel rear camera with flash and a microSD card reader.
As for the other newly released HTC handsets, this one has a more refined design with a slightly thinner chassis. The Wildfire S is currently only available on Orange although a Vodafone model is likely to be released at some point.
Expect the handset to drop in price over the next few months as the existing Wildfire gets cleared out and other potential competitors like the Sony Ericsson W15 are introduced to the market.
