It seems that the iPad 2 frenzy in China has been the biggest of them all, as it culminated in fights between customers and the sales staff. Apple has compensated a customer who was injured on Saturday after a fight broke out, and crowds smashed store’s glass shop front, rushing for the iPad 2 and the white iPhone 4 smartphone.
"The Apple Store Sanlitun was closed for several hours on Saturday after a group outside the store became unruly. The store team acted to protect themselves and our customers by closing the doors and preventing the group from entering. The safety of our customers and employees is our top priority." Carolyn Wu, an Apple spokesperson, said.
Ding Wencheng, the Chinese customer that suffered injuries during the brawl, reached a $3,000 settlement with the store. But he wasn’t the only one injured. At least three other customers were reportedly hospitalized, but there hasn’t been any other reports yet about any of them being compensated.
Some anonymous sources in the crowd told the press that the melee was actually started by a “foreign” Apple employee who beat people that he accused of queue jumping. Right after the iPad was launched, big lines started to gather both in Beijing and Shanghai, as the highly popular iPad 2 returned “home”.
