Israeli Couple Names Daughter After Facebook Like Button

A couple in Israel have named their new born daughter ‘Like’ after the popular Facebook feature that allows users to express their approval or appreciation for something.

Lior Adler and wife Vardit decided on the name because they believe ‘Like’ represents something modern and innovative.

“In our opinion it's the modern equivalent of the name Ahava [Love]. It's just my way of saying to my fantastic daughter, 'Love'”, Lior Adler, Haaretz reports.

Adler was motivated to chose such an unusual name for his baby daughter after a photo of her got 40 ‘Likes’ from his friends. “Considering that I have only a little more than 100 friends on the network that's a lot,” he said.

Like Adler is not the only daughter in the family with a weird name. The Adlers, who say they love cooking, have named one of their daughters Pie and the other Dvash, which is Hebrew for honey.

Adler went as far as comparing Facebook with the Bible, claiming that “If once people gave Biblical names and that was the icon, then today [the Facebook 'Like'] is one of the most famous icons in the world”.

Though she's too young to comment now, no doubt the girl will learn to like the obvious puns that people make when they first hear her name.
