ITV iPlayer comes to Android

More TV shows on your phone

Independent Television company has released an application for the Google mobile OS powered devices, which allows for the viewing of programmes and in much the same way as BBC’s iPlayer.

The ITV Player provides a video catch-up service for mobile and tablet devices, running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 or above.

It’s the first Android application to allow users to view ITV programmes on a handset, for episodes that the television company has the rights to show - up to seven days after they were initially broadcasted.

The programmes on offer are from the whole of the networks channels, made up from ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4.

These episodes are all free to download with unlimited use, where the app has the ability to browse recommended programmes and with the ability to search for episodes by channel and also alphabetically.

The Android devices supported so far by the application the HTC Desire HD, Acer Liquid Metal, Xperia Play, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Samsung Galaxy S2.

ITV’s Player application works over WIFI, whilst using Adobe Air 2.6 or higher with episodes viewable only in the UK with some regions being restricted to only ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 programmes.
