Apple iOS dominates connected mobile apps in UK

Figures collated by tech industry bean-counters ComScore show that Apple's iDevices are dominating the UK mobile market when it comes to connected apps.

The GSMA and ComScore in partnership with national mobile operators released the first bunch of data collected by the GSMA Mobile Media Metrics (MMM) application which measures how many users are connecting to the Internet using smartphones and other network-enabled portable devices.

They show that close to 8.8 million people used an app that connected to the Internet in April 2011, 65 per cent of them using a device powered by Apple's iOS mobile operating system.

Google managed to dominate the individual apps used with three out of the top five being owned by the search engine giant.
