AMNews: iPhone 5 May Get Cheaper, Office 365 Compliance Solution From Proofpoint, Acer Chromebook Launched

Apple may find the argument to penetrate the mainstream segment now with a cheaper iPhone 5 compelling as two of its biggest rivals, RIMM and Nokia, are finding life difficult in the mid market. This is, in essence, what an analyst for Deutsche Bank, Chris Whitmore (as reported by Fortune magazine), told his clients in a research note. He backed the idea that Apple may mount an assault with two phones rather than one.

It seems like a fresh war of words has just started between Microsoft Corp. and its rival in the browser market, Mozilla. Acer has officially launched its first Chromebook, the AC700, in the US; the device has already been on Google's dedicated Chrome website for a few weeks already. It will apparently be the first of a series of products from Acer that will use Google's Chrome operating system.

White labelled devices are quickly capturing an ever growing fraction of the tablet market which is currently dominated by the iPad 2. Digitimes reports that by some count, so-called White-box player account for one in every five tablets sold and their combined marketshare would make them the second biggest player behind the iPad 2 and ahead of every other tablet manufacturer like ZTE, HTC or Samsung.
