Google Maps Update For Android Includes Transit Navigation Feature

Search engine giant Google has served up a new version of Google Maps for Android, which comes with Transit Navigation Beta, better search results and photos for Places.

In a blog post, the company said that Google Maps 5.7 for Android comes with the Transit Navigation Beta feature which provides stop-by-stop transit information in 400 cities across the world.

The feature uses GPS to get the user’s location and is designed to give alerts or notifications when it is time to get off at a station or make a transfer.

“After starting your trip with Transit Navigation, you can open another application or put your phone away entirely and Google Maps will still display an alert in your notification bar and vibrate your phone when your stop is coming up,” Google said.

The new Maps for Android also features an updated directions feature, which makes it more easy for people to see directions on their screens. The search suggestions feature will feature category icons for every suggested search result. Also, Places previously searched by the user will be automatically added to the suggested results.

Apart from introducing a photo viewer for Place pages, Google Maps Labs is now offering the ability to download maps for offline use.
