Much to the delight of CEO Steve Ballmer, Microsoft Corp has secured the top spot in the list of worldwide unified communications (UC) vendors.
The Vendor Matrix is an analytical tool published by ABI Research which places Cisco Systems and IBM in the second and third positions respectively.
According to Subha Rama, a senior ABI analyst, the Washington based software giant has exhibited a rather impressive growth rate amongst all the leading UC vendors, making its way to the top when it comes to the desktop application market, with its highly effective UC offering Microsoft Lync.
"It has, over the years, integrated multiple solutions in its portfolio to offer a compelling software-based UC solution in Lync," Mr Rama said in a statement, CBR Online reports.
"Microsoft also has the widest spectrum of partners for Lync and is expanding this ecosystem rapidly. It has an equally significant play both on the premises and in the cloud," he added.
Meanwhile, the practice director of ABI, Dan Shey stated that networking gear maker Cisco has evolved the company’s UC channel partner ecosystem.
"IBM was among the first to bring a high degree of credibility to the integration of social computing tools with UC platforms," Shey said.
