Firefox Add-on Warns Users When They Stray Onto A Murdoch-Owned Web Site

A plug-in for popular web browser Firefox has been created which warns Internet users when they are about to encounter a web site owned by Rupert Murdoch's News International.

The newspaper magnate, who has been almost universally vilified because of his company's involvement in the News of the World phone hacking scandal, owns more Internet-based media outlets than most people could possible keep track of so the add-on warns users when they are about to stumble upon one of his sites.

The Murdoch family controls more than 100 high traffic domains and, according to thinq_ the Murdoch Alert add-on issues a warning rather than blocking the site completely like Murdoch Block for Chrome does.

Murdoch and his son James recently appeared before a Commons Select Committee where they both evaded awkward questions about their involvement in the illegal interception of voicemail messages by pleading ignorance.
