Android Market Upgraded, Now Buy eBooks and Rent Movies

by Ravi Mandalia, 27 Jul, 2011 News

Search engine giant Google has quietly dished out an update for its Android Market mobile application store.

The update, which bumps the Android Market version to 3.0.27, brings a new user interface and new content for Android powered Smartphones and Tablet devices.

Users will now be able to purchase and download eBooks and rent Hollywood blockbusters to watch on their Smartphones. The movie rental service and eBook service are only available to US based Android users.

Users will also be able to download a Videos app to rent and watch movies from Android Market.

The new user interface has a very Honeycomb feel to it. Perhaps, Google is prepping users for the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update, a Smartphone version of Honeycomb.

Google, when announcing the update earlier, had said that the new Market will come with more space that features interesting content of the week lists.

“We’ve added more top charts, with newer, more relevant items, and we’ve made it easy to swipe through these charts as you browse the store. We’ve also introduced new collections of great content, like staff picks and Editors’ Choice apps,” Google had said at that time.
