Vodafone announces own-brand Facebook phone

by Rob Kerr, 27 Jul, 2011 News

Vodafone has launched a pay as you go handset with built-in access to Facebook from a dedicated key, in the Vodafone 555 Blue.

The phone has a similar set of features to the HTC ChaCha and Salsa mobile phone, which also have a dedicated button to launch Facebook – only the Vodafone 555 will be the first of these mobiles available with a low cost attached.

Vodafone’s 555 Blue has been developed in collaboration with Facebook, although the device is a rebranded Alcatel One Touch handset from their messaging range.

The phone arrives with a 2.4-inch landscape display, with a Qwerty keypad and a 2 megapixel camera, with Facebook built into the handset’s core with instant sharing from a single click.

It's customisable Facebook ‘F’ button can be assigned to one of a number of tasks, including instantly posting a status update, photos from the gallery or links from the browser.

This 555 Blue also includes the Opera Mini 5 web browser, for fast Internet surfing where the mobile has been designed to be a truly integrated messaging device with FB messaging appearing inside of the handset’s inbox, alongside text messages and emails.

No prices or tariff costs have been announced by Vodafone for the 555 Blue as yet, although the mobile phone network is retailing the Vodafone Smart for £75 on pay as you go plans – which One Mobile Ring believes could be matched with the 555 Blue.
