Hewlett Packard has introduced a SIM-free version of its Pre 3 smartphone device in Europe without great fanfare, via the Palm Eurostore.
There are no reports confirming whether the device, which comes with a 3.6 inch display, will be offered by wireless carriers in the UK but an Orange support page had claimed that the company would be offering the device.
However, that hope was dashed by Orange when it revealed that it will not be be offering the device from its web store or retail outlets, but added that it should be available from third party retailers on Orange.
“HP is excited to begin its regional rollout of Pre3, the only phone today that offers users a slide-out keyboard coupled with a large touchscreen and the fastest speed (1.4GHz processor – the fastest on the market). We expect to share additional information for U.S. customers soon,” HP said in an official statement.
The device, the successor to the Pre 2, comes with 8 GB of built-in memory and like the TouchPad tablet, runs on a revamped version of the WebOS mobile operating system.
