iOS Jailbreaker joins Apple

Coding whizz offered internship as Jobs set sail

An iOS Jailbreaker has shocked some of his chums, while impressing others by announcing he'll be taking up an internship at Apple within days.

Nineteen-year old Nicholas Allegra, known as Comex for his work on the iPhone Dev Team's JailbreakMe exploit, chose the day on which Steve Jobs' retirement was announced to tweet a little announcement of his own.

So, the week after next I will be starting an internship with Apple," he twittered.

The iPhone Dev Team has been a constant thorn in Apple's side, usually Jailbreaking new versions of the iOS within hours, allowing tinkerers access to their iDevices's innards.

Because he's been doing these tinkerers a favour he thought they'd have his guts for garters for straying to the dark side. But a subsequent tweet revealed the opposite was the case

"Thanks for the congratulations everyone; I was expecting a more negative response :)" he wrote.

Allegra featured in a glowing Forbes feature recently, claiming picking apart iOS code was really pretty straightforward. “You just go through and look for errors. I don’t know why I seem to be so effective at it,” he said.

A tinkerer himself from a young age, Allegra reckons that, by the time he took a computer science class in high school, "I already knew everything.”
