GlobalSign Investigating Hacking Claims, Stops Issuing New Certificates

Another digital security certificates issuer GlobalSign is said to have been hacked by the same hacker who claimed responsibility for the DigiNotar hack.

ComodoHacker, the hacker behind the attack on Comodo earlier in the year, claimed that he was behind the attack on DigiNotar and informed that he also had access to certificates from four other such companies, one of them being GlobalSign.

The Portsmouth based company has stopped issuing more certificates and is currently investigating the claims made by the hacker. The company stated that it was taking the claims made by the hacker ‘very seriously’.

“On Sep 5th 2011 the individual/group previously confirmed to have hacked several Comodo resellers, claimed responsibility for the recent DigiNotar hack. In his message posted on Pastebin, he also referred to having access to 4 further high profile Certificate Authorities, and named GlobalSign as one of the 4,” the company explained in a blog post.

“GlobalSign takes this claim very seriously and is currently investigating. As a responsible CA, we have decided to temporarily cease issuance of all Certificates until the investigation is complete. We will post updates as frequently as possible,” it added.
