Aveva has acquired 3D laser scanning software maker Z+F UK for £6.3 million.
Under the terms of the acquisition, which will be completed on October 7 2011, Z+F UK’s parent company, Z+F GmbH, will retain the license for selling Z+F UK software along with its products.
Aveva claims the acquisition will allow it to expand into the fast developing 3D laser scanning market and laser scanning data management. The company believes it will be able to create a strong portfolio using the technology and talent it has acquired.
"Aveva has been successfully working with the Z+F team as a partner for a number of years, jointly creating innovative new products for the use of laser data in plant design and operations,” said Aveva Chief Executive Officer, Richard Longdon.
“This acquisition brings under AVEVA's control this core technology to support a set of products that will offer substantial efficiencies and cost savings over currently available technology," he added.
Data obtained from laser scanning techniques helps in asset management, design modifications and decommissioning. The technology can also be used in the construction phase of building to check whether the project is progressing as planned, as far as the design is concerned.
