AT&T Reveals iPhone 4S Preorder Stats, Sells More Than 200,000 in First 12 Hours

by Ravi Mandalia, 10 Oct, 2011 News

US wireless carrier AT&T has revealed that Apple’s newly unveiled iPhone 4S device has had the most successful pre-order launch.

The company revealed that it had received more than 200,000 pre-orders for the device within 12 hours of making it available for pre-order.

AT&T rivals Verizon Wireless and Sprint have also started the pre-ordering process but, they are yet to announce their numbers.

The device, which will come with the new iOS 5 operating system, will come with 8MP camera with HD video recording and an A5 dual core processor which is used in the iPad. The launch of the device however, has been marred by the death of Apple co-founder and CEO Steve Jobs.

As soon as the device was unveiled by Apple, Samsung, which is locked in a bitter legal battle with the company, said that it will file a lawsuit against iPhone 4S, seeking to block the sales of the device in France and Italy.

The company is looking to inflict the same pain on Apple as the iPad maker did on Samsung when it blocked Samsung from releasing the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia.

“Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride on our technology. We believe it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation,” Samsung said, indicating that it might file similar lawsuits against the iPhone 4S in other markets.
