Noon News: WD Halts HDD Production in Thailand, Asus UX21 & UX31 Ultrabooks, Apple TV 4.4 Update

Western Digital, one of the biggest brands in the traditional hard disk drive storage market besides Seagate, recently said that the production of HDDs for external storage as well as notebook and desktops has been hit by floods in Thailand.

Intel’s bid to redefine mobile computing officially kicked off on Tuesday with the launch of two ultrabooks from Taiwan based Asus. At a New York press conference, the Senior Vice President of Intel, Tom Kilroy, reported that the devices named as UX21 and UX31 are representative of more than “just another product launch” for the existing prolific PC industry.

Apple has rolled out another update, this time for the A4-based Apple TV which brings support for Photo Stream, AirPlay mirroring, NHL Hockey, content from Wall Street Journal and more. Photostream allows you to view photos on Apple TV that have been uploaded to an iCloud account, while AirPlay mirroring allows you to wirelessly mirror content of your iDevices (iPad or iPhone) on your TV using Apple TV.

US wireless carriers Sprint and Verizon have announced that users of the upcoming iPhone 4S will be allowed to get their SIMs unlocked to be used on GSM networks. The iPhone 4S device is the first Apple phone which supports both the CDMA and GSM networks.

Google has released an official Google TV add-on for Android paving the way for more devices that will use Android to power services that are delivered on the big screen. The release comes two months after a preview of the SDK was unveiled, though differences are said to be minor between the two releases.
