Xbox 360 Tops US Gaming Console Sales with 438,000 Units Sold So Far in 2011

by Erica Thinesen, 15 Oct, 2011 News

According to a set of newly released data from the NCD Group, in September, Xbox 360 sold 438,000 units to become the No.1 game console in the U.S. for 2011.

NCD Group is an independent market research firm that tracks the digital entertainment industry.

NPD said, as per numbers released by Microsoft, 42 percent of the overall current-generation console market is occupied by Xbox 360.

In September, customers spent $534 million on various Xbox 360 related products like hardware, software and accessories. This figure is two times greater than the closest competitor of Xbox 360, reported The Official Microsoft Blog.

If Microsoft maintains this pace, the Xbox 360 will be the top selling game console in 2011.

According to Ubergizmo, Sony has not yet revealed its sales figures for PlayStation 3. However, Sony did reveal that they witnessed double digit growth with its hardware sales which increased by 20 percent and software sales increases by 52 percent.

Nintendo reported that 240,000 units of Wii has been sold in September and 145,000 combined units were sold within the DS family, as reported by Ubergizmo.
