AMNews: KDE Plasma Active One, Cisco Partners Citrix, Amazon Offers Free Cloud Storage

Linux-based open source desktop environment KDE celebrated 15 years in business on Saturday, October 15. The desktop environment, which contends with Ubuntu's Unity and GNOME utilities, is one of the most widely used Linux desktop environments in the world.

Enterprise networking technology maker Cisco has dished out a new range of virtual desktop products which bring high quality audio and video capabilities to virtual desktop environments. The company, apart from announcing the new products, also announced a strategic partnership with Citrix on virtualisation and device management.

Windows 8 is expected to work more efficiently with multi-core central processing units (CPUs) as compared to Windows 7, reported Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). This will reflect in higher performance of the company’s FX-series chips with up to eight cores.

Amazon released a new update for its Kindle e-book reader devices that provides Whispersync and cloud storage support for personal documents. The update, Kindle Keyboard Software update v3.3, is for the Kindle 3, named the Kindle Keyboard after the company launched a series of devices including a touch screen Kindle and the Kindle Fire table, which everyone seems to be talking about.

The Document Foundation has announced it is developing an online version of LibreOffice, an open source productivity platform. In a recent conference in Paris, the Document Foundation revealed that LibreOffice will soon be available online.
