SGI Joins Hands with Cloudera for Hadoop Based HPC

High performance computer maker SGI has inked a partnership with Cloudera to offer its software pre-installed on the SGI Hadoop Clusters.

SGI, which recently became a member of the Cloudera Connect Partner Programme, announced that Cloudera's Distribution Including Apache Hadoop (CDH) will come pre-installed with the SGI Hadoop Cluster, which runs on its Rackable server.

Apache Hadoop is an open source big data management and analysis platform which is used by large enterprises to manage the massive stream of data they have to deal with on a day to day basis.

Under the partnership, SGI will be offering level one support to the customers of Cloudera’s software and services including the Cloudera University training courses.

The two companies have also agreed to develop and deploy commercial products based on the Apache Hadoop platform.

“We understand the power of Hadoop. Since the technology's inception, we have successfully deployed tens of thousands of Hadoop servers to our customers," said Bill Mannel, vice president of product marketing at SGI.

"Leveraging Cloudera's Distribution including Apache Hadoop together with our SGI Hadoop Cluster, we achieved a world record Hadoop benchmark for data processing and analysis -- 81% faster than the competition,” he added.
