Verizon and Telefonica to Sell Android Smartphones with 'Mobile Hypervisor' from VMWare

Verizon and Telefonica plan to roll out Android powered phones featuring ‘mobile hypervisor’ from VMWare, announced the companies on Wednesday at the ongoing VMworld 2011 Europe conference hosted by Copenhagen.

Verizon previously stated that the company would soon introduce this new offering. However, the company did not mention the timeline within which it was planning to come up with the maiden mobile hypervisor running Android device.

This was the first time Telefonica has confirmed that it intends to roll out such an offering. “VMware Horizon Mobile(TM) with our dual subscription feature and Telefonica cloud services will provide enterprises with the opportunity to manage and deliver a secure mobile environment, while providing individuals complete freedom over the personal use of the device," said Global M2M, Cloud and Apps Director of Telefonica Digital, Carlos Morales in a statement as reported by MarketWatch.

“Inspired by the great experience they have with technology in their personal time, people want to bring the same devices and experience to work," said Chief Technology Officer and Vice President of Research and Development VMware, Steve Herrod added.
