Dell's Android-Based Security Platform Adopted by US DOD

The US Department of Defense has certified Dell's Android based security platform for use on defense networks.

The company said in a blog post that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has certified the Dell Mobile Security for Android platform for information assurance and for use on defense networks.

Dell said that using its Android platform, military personnel will be able to use their mobile devices to access applications instead of simply using their devices to access email.

The platform, developed in partnership with Good Technologies, allows users to securely access email, documents, Android apps running on an partitioned eco-system, and other business applications.

"Certified and piloted on the Dell Streak, this certification will allow the next wave of Dell Android devices, set for release next year, to be rapidly integrated into military environments," Dell said.

"With access to the Android ecosystem, members of the military will have access to information on their PCs or desktops, command and control programs and a number of different powerful solutions that enable members in the military to operate with similar capabilities as those in controlled environments," it added.
