Starbucks Creates Payment App for iPhone and iPod Touch

by Erica Thinesen, 25 Nov, 2011 News

Following its success in the United States, Starbucks, the popular coffee chain is planning to install a payment system in its iPhone app for around 700 branches that it has across United Kingdom and Ireland.

The payment app from Starbucks for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch will hit the market on 5th January 2012. It will let customers make payments for their orders through their Apple smartphones.

The purpose of this service is to reduce transaction times by a minimum  of 10 seconds which is not only comfortable and convenient for customers, but also for crew members.

Brian Waring, Starbucks UK and Ireland, "Customers want to be served quickly, but fewer want to use cash. We wanted to find a way for them to pay in the quickest way possible."

Waring also added, "Because our customers want it, we have created our own custom-built mobile payment technology...We're always thinking of new ways to add value to our customers and give them more reasons to choose Starbucks," as reported by Gadgets and Gizmos.

The new app will also do away with the requirement to remove Starbucks cards from user's wallets because they can be linked to the app. This means the customer can still get free gifts and such other things.
