Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a new iMac with TV capabilities, an analyst claims.
According to an article on Boy Genius Report, Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair claims that the company will launch an iMac with TV capabilities before its HDTV offering.
The analyst said the iPad will launch the new iMac in the first half of 2012. The device will be a slimmed down version of the iMac with TV capabilities; integrated with Apple TV capabilities.
"Apple could effectively start with what they already have on the manufacturing line and slowly push their offering from 27 inches and scale up from there to 32 inches and then move on to the 32, 50 and 55 inch market," said Blair.
He did not expand on the functionality with which the new iMac will feature nor did he mention anything about Siri. Apple is expected to integrate the iOS 5 voice activated agent with its HDTV offering.
Apple is in the best position to offer a web connected HDTV than any of its rivals. Google is struggling with Google TV while Microsoft is yet to bring TV capabilities to Xbox. This promises to be an exciting time for Apple.
