Asus Transformer Prime Most Pre-Ordered Android Tablet Ever, Despite Delays

Despite delays to the top-end 64GB model, demand for the Asus Transformer Prime is astonishing with bumper pre-orders making it the most pre-ordered Android 3 'Honeycomb' tablet in history.

Figures released by Currys and PC World and obtained by Recombu suggest that thousands of UK customers have pre-ordered the tablet, which is due to be the first available in UK retail channels with Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 'Kal-El' ARM-based application processor, with demand proving "seven times greater than expected" according to Dixons Retail category director Mark Slater.

"We are expecting the Transformer Prime to be in high demand when it arrives in January," Slater added, "so anyone hoping to purchase one is strongly advised to pre-order now, in order to avoid missing out."

The bumper pre-order period comes despite a relatively high price-tag, which sees the tablet only available in a bundle with its originally optional keyboard docking station - which, cleverly, contains a second battery that can boost the device's lifespan to 18 hours - at a premium £499.
