Supermarket Asda has announced that it will be selling the cheapest backlit LED screen in the country, at just £50; albeit with a 15.6-inch diagonal, equivalent to an old 17 to 19-inch CRT monitor or the display size of a regular laptop.
Asda's model will be by far the cheapest LCD TV in the country. Argos' 16-inch Alba TV retails for £80 and Dixons sells its Essentials range for £85, while Comet sells its Goodmans televison for £100!
The Venturer PLV78159S7E12H-CI is currently out of stock and will only be available from Boxing day and until stocks last. As expected, the manufacturer has cut costs when it comes to inputs, with the bare minimum on offer; there's an AV, HDMI and SCART input but no D-SUB or audio in.
It has a pair of stereo speakers, can be wall mounted, has a Freeview tuner and has a - dare we say - seemingly well-designed remote control.
Other specs include a 1366x768 pixel resolution, and if you can grab a DVI to HDMI convertor, you should be able to connect it to a computer and use it maybe as a secondary monitor. It's worth noting that Asda is also selling a Blu-ray player from its own brand ONN, for a mere £50.
