Christmas turned out to be very favourable for Rovio as it was reported that the Angry Birds game received 6.5 million downloads over the holiday season.

Spokesman for Rovio, Ville Heijari, told that, "We're really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays, we have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can't wait to introduce them to the public," reported All Things D.

The download count includes free as well as the paid version of this game along with expansion packs Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons. In fact, in totality the Angry Birds downloads done this seasons Christmas day broke all previous records of 2 million downloads during the same time last year.

This shows that the popular game has achieved the level of being an essential app in smartphones and tablet. There are few other apps like Facebook and Google search and some other that are considered as essential, reported Into Mobile.

Analysts believe that Rovio might have to offer more this year to keep the popularity it has achieved last year intact.
