Existing Eee Pad Transformer Tablet to Get Android ICS Update January 12th

Yesterday, on their Facebook page, Asus announced the original Eee Pad Transformer tablet will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update on January 12th.

The post reads, "ICS 4.0 will be coming to existing Eee Pad Transformer TF101. Exact date TBC but we are working on making the FOTA update available a.s.a.p. after Jan 12th launch with Prime TF201."

The 8.8.3.33 version update will be improve the "focus of camera of the device, the fluidity of the touch experience and the APK capacities in Android Market", as posted on Facebook.

The update will hit the market on the day when the device will be made available in the UK marketplace The company clarified that global availability of Ice Cream Sandwich will be made via another update in the future.

The news, however, affects bootloader and GPS of the tablet adversely. Thus, the company locked bootloader "due to content providers" asking for DRM client devices to be very secure.

The update was to hit the market during holiday season but it had to be pushed back to January; unfortunately, the company will not be offering 3G variant with the update.
