The Apple iPhone 4S uses almost double the data used by the iPhone 4.
According to a new report released by network management software maker Arieso, the device has added more to the woes of wireless carriers struggling to cater to the massive demand for data.
The company revealed the Apple iPhone 4S uses three times more data than the iPhone 3G and double the data used by iPhone 4. Arieso informed the main reason behind data hogging is the iPhone 4S's voice activated virtual assistant Siri, reports Engadget.
The report also revealed that tablet devices were using as much data as smartphones. Apart from iPhone 4S users, users of the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, HTC Desire S and the Nexus One also downloaded a lot of data. The company said that 1 percent of high data users were responsible for consuming half of the data. Data usage needed to run certain applications increases this overall percentage.
"I use the iPhone 4 myself and when I first heard of the iPhone 4S features I was not compelled to rush out and get one. However, the data usage numbers I am seeing make me wonder what I am missing," said Arieso's chief technology officer, Michael Flanagan.
