Research in Motion is planning to showcase the new BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 and the BlackBerry App World at the Consumer Electronics Show next week in Las Vegas, reportsCNet.
The company was not expected to put up a stall this year as it has no new smartphones to show off. However, by showcasing the new tablet OS and revamped app store, the company hopes to stay in the news until it launches new BB10 devices.
RIM said in the invitation sent out to the media that Alec Saunders, head of developer relations for the company and Martyn Mallick, vice president of global alliances, will be taking the stage to talk about the PlayBook OS 2.0 and App World.
The company was expected to unveil the new tablet OS in February but it has obviously changed its pace. RIM plans to hold the event on Tuesday, January 10.
RIM's PlayBook tablet failed to take the market by storm and its position continues to deteriorate in the smartphone market as consumers flock toward iOS and Android devices.
What the company needs right now is a robust portfolio of consumer centric devices and a good app store. Perhaps things will change for the better when the company finally launches new BlackBerry 10 devices.
