Asus has announced two important plans for the Transformer Prime tablet for 2012. The first is to launch the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system in the device. The second is to introduce a bootloader unlock tool so users can easily customise their tablets.
The good news is that the company has confirmed the unlocked bootloader tool will be made available in February.
The company disclosed this information through their Twitter account in which it posted that "Just got word that the root tool for the @ASUS #TransformerPrime should be coming in February." Later in another post, they clarified that "root" is for bootloader unlock tool, as published onTwitter.
Asus had previously shipped the device with locked bootloader as the "content providers' requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible." Incidentally, the devices that are rooted do not play DRM content due to a piracy risk.
However, as the company announced the unlocking tool will be made available soon. But, once the tablet is unlocked, its warranty will be void. Users will not be able to access Google video rentals either.
