BlackBerry 10 OS will be coming to BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, states RIM to ITProPortal

by Rob Kerr, 08 Feb, 2012 News

BlackBerry DevCon Europe 2012

ITProPortal has exclusively learnt that the next generation of the BlackBerry operating system, known as BlackBerry 10, will be coming to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet device.

A Research In Motion representative at the BlackBerry DevCon Europe developer's conference confirmed that "BlackBerry 10 will run on BlackBerry PlayBook" - in an official statement to ITPP.

The RIM spokesperson went on to note that this establishes that the future BlackBerry 10 OS will be made available to the PlayBook tablet, whilst going on to add that this is still on message from the BlackBerry 10 launch event.

Another senior member of RIM's staff mentioned to ITProPortal earlier on at the event, the PlayBook could run this next generation of the OS, as it is dual core powered - indicating that is a stipulation of the upcoming platform.

The same member of the Research In Motion team stated that it is likely that BlackBerry 10 would be seen this year, although whether this means it will be available for the PlayBook in 2012, is uncertain.

ITPP has published an article today, detailing that the PlayBook 2.0 OS won't be the last operating system to arrive on the RIM tablet - where this news now reestablishes that information.

BlackBerry 10 OS is built on the same QNX core platform as the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 OS, only taking with it aspects of the mobile phone's operating system.
