Reddit Changes Policy, Expressly Bans Child Pornography
Having been put through immense pressure by users and concerned authorities, Reddit has finally decided to impose a ban on all sexually exploitative or suggestive images of children on the site.
Reddit has been subjected to severe criticism for not taking appropriate and effective actions against child pornographic content on the site for over a long time now as up until now it had been dealing with such objectionable content on a slow and pretty hectic case-by-case-basis.
But, the site has finally embraced a new policy whereby it has announced that any subreddits that focus on sexualisation of children will be banned immediately. "We have changed our policy because interpreting the vague and debated legal guidelines on a case by case basis has become a massive distraction and risks reddit being pulled in to legal quagmire," read a statement from the site, entitled "A necessary change in policy.".
Site administrators added that the move to ban pornographic content focused on children was certainly not an easy one, as these content were pretty much "toxic" to Web communities. They have also revealed that they are aware that once a category of content gets blocked there will be requests on blocking other types of content.
"We understand that this might make some of you worried about the slippery slope from banning one specific type of content to banning other types of content. We're concerned about that too, and do not make this policy change lightly or without careful deliberation", the statement on the website read.
