Screenshots of Windows Phone 7 Tango Appear

Some new screenshots have appeared of the next iteration of Windows Phone 7, known as Tango, featuring what looks like a voice recording app.

Expected to be used on upcoming Nokia handsets, including the Lumia 620, we're set to get our first look at this operating system version at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Known also as Windows Phone 7.6, Tango screenshots emerged on a Russian forum. The several images show a look to the system that is pretty traditional, though there are a few notable features hinted at. Multi-Image multimedia messaging is new - though I can imagine it'll eat into a user's message allowance quite heavily - along with the ability to export contacts from the phone to the SIM.

The voice recording app is getting a lot of attention, and seemingly is designed to work like a dictation machine, perhaps hooked up with social networks to allow quick opinion sharing and recording on the fly.

The original forum post also hinted at internal specifications of the phone, suggesting further that it will be designed for the lower end of Microsoft/Nokia's phone spectrum. Camera resolution is thought to be as low as 3MP, with RAM maxing out at 256MB. This will likely make the Lumia 620 a less snappy phone than some of the higher end devices appearing now.

That said it all really depends on how Tango performs and what it needs. If it's the type of operating system with low requirements, the new Lumia might be more than enough.
