40GB RAM Now Available For Under £100
The price of non-magnetic storage is falling fast; we reported yesterday that you can buy 256GB worth of flash storage for just over £100, and now we've learnt that you can get 40GB RAM for £98.90 with free delivery from 7dayshop.com
The online retailer is selling 4GB memory modules of Crucial Memory DIMMs for just £9.89. These are DDR3, 240-pin models (CT51264BA1339) with CAS Latency 9, unbuffered, rated at PC3-10600 (1333MHz) and 1.5V and Non-ECC.
We're baffled that no one has yet come with a decent barebone RAM drive that could use some of these spare DIMM modules to create an excruciatingly fast storage device surpassed only by onchip cache.
RAM storage doesn't suffer from fragmentation or physical shortcomings (moving arms, spinning disks) like their hard disk cousins and In theory, wiping data out is simply a matter of shutting down the system.
40GB is the minimum necessary disk space to run Windows 8 and getting two such RAM drives in RAID-0 may well be the starting block to build the world's fastest Windows 8 desktop computer.
The price of computer system memory has been falling at a frightening rate reaching 32GB for £100 back in December and now less than £2.50 a GB a couple of months later.
