Earlier this month Microsoft revised their support policy for the Windows consumer divisions, resulting in the releases of both Windows 7 and Vista to now provide 10 years of full support since their inception.
With support for Windows 7 and Vista ending in 2010 and 2017 respectively, the Mainstream support period for consumers lasts five years whilst an additional five years support has been given for business versions.
Previous guidelines for the Windows Vista's mainstream support revealed that it was due to expire on 10th April 2012. However, this month the company revised their support policy so consumers are qualified for extended support, reported CNET.
Users accessing the Support Lifecycle home page to search for the product family will now be able to view new details for Windows 7 as well as Windows Vista, including Extended Support ending dates for the consumer versions of both these products.
A spokesman for Microsoft confirmed via email that "Microsoft is updating the Support Lifecycle policy for Windows desktop operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7."
It is also envisioned that the update will provide better consistency as well as a smoother experience for users of Microsoft Windows operating systems within the consumer and business audience.
