Microsoft To Reinstate Hyper-V Back Into OpenStack

It's emerged that Microsoft is currently engaged in talks for the readmission of its Windows hypervisor in the Linux-for-the-cloud project OpenStack, new reports revealed.

According to one of the OpenStack movers, Rackspace, the cloud team is still operating with Microsoft following the removal of Hyper-V from the project's code due to lack of maintenance.

Microsoft's software was also dropped from the OpenStack's upcoming release "Essex" earlier this month.

OpenStack founder and vice-president of business development and marketing at Rackspace, Mark Collier, commented: "We have spoken to them [Microsoft], they are interested."

He also explained the Hyper-V booting as "more a bump in the road than an internal decision to move away from it", reported The Register.

Collier also stated that in the long run the market will witness numerous different hypervisors such as Hyper-V, which ultimately will be the unexpected hurdle for Microsoft. The software giant has already approached Rackspace and expressed their willingness to help various organisations looking to incorporate their technology with OpenStack.

OpenStack project chairman and founder of the Rackspace Cloud, Jonathan Bryce, also expressed the same opinion; stating that it was actually Microsoft who had asked for their guidance.
