The Asus Padfone, a unique hybrid phone-tablet, has gone on preorder at a little known online retailer called Flagshipfones for a staggering £699.98. The device comes with free UK shipping but no official release date.

However, Asus UK has issued a statement that rebukes the price on the website and says "ASUS is yet to announce pricing and availability of the ground-breaking and shape-shifting PadFone - anything to the contrary is merely rumours and speculation. We will be announcing details with our carrier partners in due course, so keep an eye out for updates on the official ASUS website and social media pages for more information as and when it is available."

The tablet comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260A dual core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, a 4.3-inch 960 by 540 pixels Super AMOLED display, up to 64GB onboard storage, a microSD card reader, a 1520mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, a microUSB port, an eight-megapixel camera with a F2.2 aperture size, a front facing VGA camera, A-GPS, HDMI and Ice Cream Sandwich.

As for the tablet shell itself, it is a 10.1-inch model with a 1,280 by 800 pixel screen as well as a battery of 660mAh plus a front facing 1.3-megapixel camera. What's more, you will be able to dock the tablet to the firm's keyboard docking station that equips the Transformer series, which means that the three devices will have a combined battery capacity of more than 14,000mAh, enough to last for around 17 hours.
