Looks like there's a bit of friendly fire along the videoconferencing front, as it appears that Microsoft is looking to compete with Google+ Hangouts by developing a Skype web app.

After paying a staggering $8.5 billion (£5.3 billion) for the VoIP client last May, Microsoft has now launched a search in order "to help us bring [the] Skype experience on to the Web," - with two lucky candidates to be based in London whilst another role is waiting to be filled in Prague.

The job posting states: "The team at Skype is looking for passionate, team-oriented and self-motivated developers to help us bring the Skype experience on to the Web. You will have a chance to integrate existing Skype solutions on to the web with the support of the backend services built from the ground up using latest Microsoft technologies. The result of your work will be used by hundreds millions of thankful users worldwide."

It's a natural progression for Skype, after being warmly received on smartphones, games consoles as well as connected TV sets - so heading towards the Web is only logical for the company. 

We'll just have to see if Google+ Hangouts has what it takes to keep its crown as the video calling champion, otherwise Google might have to find somewhere else to 'Hangout'.
