VMware has just unveiled VMware View 5.1, which has been updated to allow companies to better manage mobile devices, an increasingly important facet of the workplace.
VMware gushes that it's seeking to facilitate a "more user-centric experience for the connected enterprise", and that this new model will allow for staff to collaborate across applications, from any device, leveraging hybrid cloud resources.
Boaz Chalamish, senior vice president and general manager, End-User Computing, VMware, commented: "Customers are looking for solutions that break down current technology barriers and shift the focus to delivering services that can be accessed anywhere, on any device."
"VMware View 5.1 and our growing portfolio of personal cloud solutions will address the needs to simplify technology, manage more efficiently and better connect employees."
VMware View 5.1 will include new storage facilities enabled by VMware View Storage Accelerator, designed to reduce shared storage costs. The software also offers simplified management, and the streamlining of key IT elements such as provisioning, configuration and performance monitoring, all from a single management console.
View 5.1 also features a new USB stack with improved device support, and more comprehensive security with RADIUS two-factor authentication.
VMware further noted that Project Octopus, its personal cloud storage system, will be available in beta later this quarter.
