Blockbuster Makes New Attempt To Conquer UK Game Market

Blockbuster is continuing its attempts to soak up any leftover gamers from the GAME fallout, by launching a new reward scheme. Offering points that can be redeemed for rewards that include free rentals, discount vouchers or potentially free hardware if there are enough points to go around.

Points are earned in a variety of ways. The most basic is by spending money with Blockbuster. For every £1 you hand over, you'll earn 100 points. Simply signing up for an account at the moment earns you 2,500, or you could watch a few trailers for 10 points each. Entering a competition? That's another 15 points. Pre-ordering Max Payne 3? That's 500 points right there.

Agreeing to receive newsletters, upgrading your accounts and linking up with the iPhone app can earn a few extra points too.

"We know gamers and are sure that they will find our reward scheme better than anything they have seen before," head of marketing Cat Kebbeh said in a statement. "In this competitive market, customers demand the best and we want to engage with them and reward their loyalty with us."

Blockbuster was initially criticsed for its, some would say, tasteless exploitation of GAME's troubled situation earlier this year. However, since then many companies have jumped on the bandwagon, including big supermarkets as well as other specialist retailers.
