The BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha mobile phone has revealed the code names for forthcoming BlackBerry devices.
Announced at the BlackBerry World conference, the device has been created for developers to test new apps.
The Dev Alpha's searchable file directory has unearthed names and model numbers of nine forthcoming BlackBerry 10 handsets. RIM didn't mention any new devices at last week's conference, so these code names could give a little indication as to what to expect from BlackBerry 10 handsets.
When file:///radio/etc/sv.numbers is typed into the Dev Alpha's browser app, these device names are revealed:
# R044 – Nevada 0x8400270A,1
# R051 – Winchester2 LTE 0x0c001a06,1
# R052 – Winchester2 HSPA+ 0x0d001a06,1
# R053 – Winchester2 LTE HSPA+ 0x0e001a06,1
# R061 – Colt 0×04002307,1
# R072 – London 0×04002607,1
# R073 – Blackforest 0×04002706,1
# R084 – Nashville 0x8500270A,1
# R085 – Naples 0x8600270A,1
"Colt" is the code name for the Dev Alpha device, with "London" rumoured to be the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone, and a later version of "Colt". "Winchester 2" is though to be the 3G and 4G enabled versions of the BlackBerry PlayBook, promised for later this year by RIM CEO Thorsten Heins. "Blackforest" may be a 10in screen based PlayBook, whilst speculation runs thin as to what "Naples", "Nashville" and "Nevada" might be.
