Orange has opened the pre-launch registration page for users to register their interest in the new Orange Santa Clara device.
The device, given the pre-launch name of 'Santa Clara', is said to be the UK's first Android mobile phone that is powered by an Intel processor. The handset will feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and will initially run from Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Users will only be able to buy the smartphone from Orange, and only in the UK and France - manufactured by Gigabyte.
"At Orange we firmly believe that all our customers should benefit from the smartphone revolution", said Yves Maitre, Senior Vice President of Mobile Multimedia and Device at Orange.
"We remain committed to delivering innovative content and services across a wide range of devices to help customers stay connected and get more from their phone."
The handset also boasts an eight-megapixel camera, which can take 10 pictures and in under a second with HD video recording capabilities too. It features a 4.03in touchscreen and 16GB of internal flash memory. Orange is planning to upgrade the device to Android Ice Cream Sandwich shortly after the release date.
Mike Bell, Intel Vice President has also celebrated the device, "By combining Orange's unique applications and services with an attractive high-performance Intel-based smartphone, Orange is once again demonstrating its wireless leadership while providing more value and customer choice."
