The adoption rate of Apple's latest iOS update is enjoying life in the fast lane. David Smith, an independent iOS developer based in Herndon, Virginia, came up with figures to support this statement.
David Smith has created apps like Audiobooks and InstaBackup and has managed to keep track of the iOS 5.1.1 downloads. He figured out that about 10 per cent of iOS users have already updated to the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system.
Apple's iOS 5.1.1 reached this high adoption rate in just less than 24 hours after the official release. The developer pointed out that 80 per cent of iOS users have updated to at least iOS 5.0.1, released last November.
Comparatively, the latest Android versions have a slower adoption rate. Data from the Google Developer portal reveals that updates for Android Ice Cream Sandwich have a combined adoption of 5 per cent of the total Android devices.
Android 4.0 and 4.0.2 are installed to 0.5 per cent of Android smartphones and tablets. Google's latest updates of its mobile operating system, 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 have 4.4 per cent distribution, combined.
