Android gamers might have looked a little green with envy at iPhone owners and their Game Center. So, Google is working to appease them by developing an app similar to the iOS version.
The matter was detailed in a recent report published by Business Insider, based on information provided by "a source familiar with the plans." As soon as Google releases a native Android gaming app (inspired by Apple's Game Center, but with added features), it will no doubt increase the search engine's presence on the online gaming market.
The iOS/Android rivalry on the matter is an age-old tradition. The report says that Google's new solution for online gamers will include a "social achievement system". This will allow users to earn certain trophies and awards and then show off their accomplishments to their contacts and friends.
The built-in leader board will boost competition among users who will be rated against their friends. Apparently, Google is working to get more revenue from games.
"They are starting to really understand all of the needs and wants to make a game really successful," said the industry source. "As recently as even a year ago, that really wasn't part of their institutional DNA, But I think they're getting there."
