Samsung Galaxy S2 Now Ships With Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

by Desire Athow, 23 May, 2012 News

With less than one week before the launch of the Galaxy S3, Samsung has give some well deserved love to the S2 by bundling Ice Cream Sandwich with the smartphone out of the box (at least in India).

Users no longer need to perform manual checks for the firmware update via Samsung's KIES or OTA, a procedure which some might feel is slightly confusing.

The price of the S2 has dropped down over the last few days to £340 in the UK and models in the country are still shipping with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. No details have emerged as to when UK Galaxy S2 will ship with ICS by default.

The S2 remains one of Samsung's most popular smartphone ever having sold millions of units and having spawned a number of variants in the US and elsewhere as well as the Galaxy W.

The smartphone has been superseded by the Galaxy Nexus as well as the Galaxy Note both of which are marginally more expensive than the Galaxy S2 on the market.

Expect Samsung to keep selling the S2 (as it is with the Galaxy S Plus) as long as there is demand for the smartphone although its appeal has faded because (much) cheaper rivals like the Sony Xperia U or the HTC One S have emerged.
