New Ainol tablet offers iPad 2 specs for £120

by Desire Athow, 31 May, 2012 News

Online retailer Futeko has started to take preorders of the Ainol/Ainovo Novo 7 Elf 2 tablet (check our preview of the Ainol Novo 7 with a MIPS processor).

This updated version comes with some impressive specification for the price, only £120 including free delivery. There's a dual core Cortex-A9 based processor from Amlogic, the 8726-M6, which is clocked at 1.5GHz and makes the fastest dual core tablet on the market.

It also comes with two Mali-400 GPU cores instead of one which powers a 7in 1,024 x 600 pixels 5-point multi touch capacitive display.

Other features include 1GB of RAM (same as the New iPad and twice that of the iPad 2), 8GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot, a front 2-megapixel camera (but none at the back), mini USB, HDMI out, Wi-Fi, a 4000mAh battery (that allows for up to seven hours browsing) and runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Novo 7 Elf 2 is only 12mm thick and weighs a mere 360g. The four main weaknesses of the tablet at this point are the screen resolution (we'd like at least 1,280 x 800 pixels), the lack of Bluetooth, rear camera and GPS. But surely at least two of these will be solved with the next iteration.
