Office for iPad launching in November

by Angela Moscaritolo, 06 Jun, 2012 News

Looking to use Microsoft Word on your iPad? Well, evidence is mounting that it's in the works.

Microsoft is planning to roll out its Office suite for the iPad in November, Business Insider reported on Sunday, citing a source familiar with Microsoft's Office sales team. Redmond is expected to introduce the new offering at its SharePoint Conference in Las Vegas, which kicks off on 12 November.

Office for iPad will be available for the holiday season, and Microsoft will start offering volume licensing at the beginning of 2013, BI said.

The new information corroborates several earlier reports from other media outlets regarding the expected time frame of the release, and increases speculation that Office could come to the iPhone and iPod touch as well.

Rumours that Office is headed to the iPad first cropped up earlier this year. In February, it was reported that the Office for iPad app was complete and would soon be submitted to Apple for App Store approval.

The app's interface was said to be similar to that of OneNote, Microsoft's note-taking app, which received iPad support in December.

Microsoft plans to release the next version of its operating system, Windows 8, later this year, but has not yet finalised a launch date.
