Japanese company blurs line between AIO & slates with 21.5in frontier tablet

Japan-based company Kouziro has unveiled a new 21.5in tablet, the Frontier FT103 which looks a lot like existing all-in-one computers such as the HP Touchsmart 520.

The Smart Display "tablet" comes with a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 SoC clocked at 1GHz, with 1GB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a microUSB port, microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, HDMI, a webcam and a 21.5in 1,920 x 1,080 touchscreen display. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and apart from the full HD display, sports almost the same specification as the Amazon Kindle Fire with a few more connectors. It weighs only 5Kg and comes with a nifty kickstand.

It will cost around £280 (or 34,800 yen) which is extremely cheap for what is a full HD, dual-core tablet with ICS. The only other way of getting a similar experience is to grab a tablet and plug it into a full HD monitor with a HDMI-port.

By comparison, the HP Touchsmart 520 costs £700 but comes with an altogether more powerful hardware specification; a Core i3-2120 processor, Windows 7 Home Premium, 4GB RAM, 1TB hard disk drive, a keyboard and mouse, a Freeview tuner, two USB 3.0 ports, GbE LAn, Wi-Fi and more.
